Cognitive aging in dogs

Ádám Miklósi Eötvös Loránd University

Aging dogs not a happy topic, but it's important that we talk about it. Dogs, like their humans, get old too. You can't change that. But the dog's physical and mental health can affect the quality of aging. There are several questions to which we aim to find answers in our research. What is meant by the term “healthy aging”? Do family dogs really live longer than wolves? What has evolution changed? And how can a responsible owner prolong the dog's life? How do breeds differ in this context? Why might it be important that the adult dog lead a rich mental life?

Research into aging dogs only began a few years ago, but we can already feel that both dogs and humans will benefit from our insights.
